The Campaign for Stuyvesant/Alumni(ae)
& Friends Endowment Fund, Inc.
was founded in New York State,
December, 1999. It is an alumni(ae)-based non-profit organization. Its
goal is to create a $12 million endowment to benefit the student body of
Stuyvesant High School. The Campaign/Endowment Fund, Inc. has its own
independent board of directors and is neither supported nor controlled
by the NYC Department of Education (formerly the Board of Education),
its employees, or any other entity. |
WITH YOUR HELP ....
Allocations to Stuyvesant
The Campaign for
Stuyvesants Board of Directors has determined a policy for allocations so
that your donations can begin benefiting Stuyvesants students immediately,
while we continue to build the Endowment.
· The
Campaign has award Alumni(ae) & Friends Awards totaling $22,000
to 21 students who were recommended by the Principal and faculty.
· The
Campaign contributed $5,000 to the Stuyvesant HS Speech and Debate Team in
2006, from the Gus '55 & Mary Jane Constantin Fund.
· As
of December 2006, the Campaign has contributed over $13,000 to the Stuyvesant H.S.
Fencing Team through the James D. Kuhn '65 Fund for Fencing.
· The
Math Team and related Math programs have received $15,000.
· The
Campaign donated 12 Centennial Books, worth $600, to the Parents
Association's Auction in 2006.
· The
Campaign contributed $5,000 to the Stuyvesant High School Athletic Fund in
2005.
·
In December 2004, The
Campaign gave a grant of $10,000 to the Stuyvesant High School Library.
·
At the Centennial
Homecoming in October 2004, The Campaign allocated $10,000 to benefit
student activities.
·
Through the generosity of
Ron Morrill '60, The Campaign has facilitated the annual donation of $10,000
worth of IBM equipment for Stuyvesant, beginning in 2001.
·
In 2001, we assisted
The Spectator with financial and
management aid, including funds for the Special 9/11 Edition published and
distributed in cooperation with the New York Times.
Activities and Alumni(ae) Relations
·
At the request of Alumni
Class Reunion leaders, we plan and organize Stuyvesant HS Reunions, such as
1949, 1964, 1940, 1960, and others, and facilitate fundraising efforts with
these alumni(ae).
·
We have aided alumni(ae)
and friends in establishing Scholarship programs for Stuyvesant HS
graduating seniors at Cornell University, Brooklyn College, MIT, and others.
·
We helped create,
fundraise, and provide administration for The Daniel Bergstein '80 Memorial
Fund in cooperation with Fund leaders from Dan's Class of 80; Daniel
Bergstein was the Secretary of the Port Authority and died on September 11th
in the World Trade Center.
·
In September 2003, we led
the Private Funding for Public Education
Conference at Columbia University; participants included Boston
Latin School Association and the Associated Alumni of Central High School in
Philadelphia.
·
With the Parents
Association Sports Fields Committee Chairman, Sol Stern '53, P'02 & '04, and
the PA President, Marilena Christodoulou P'02, we helped lead Stuyvesant
HS's participation with the Pier, Park, & Playground Association (Tobi
Bergman P'98, President) to gain sports facilities at Pier 40 (Hudson River
at Houston Street, near Stuyvesant at Chambers Street) for use by the local
community and Stuyvesant HS teams under the auspices of the Hudson River
Park Trust.
·
We provide assistance to
alumni(ae) and students for internships and other learning opportunities, at
locations such as Pharmaceutical Discovery Corporation (PDC), Han-Padron
Associates, and Deborah Bradley Construction & Management Services, Inc.
·
We provide alumni(ae),
Class Leaders, and others with professional assistance in finding "lost
alumni(ae)" through Campaign/Endowment Fund networks and alumni(ae) in the
field.
·
We organize receptions for
alumni(ae) to stay connected. Past locations include New York City,
Westchester County, NY, Long Isalnd, NY, Washington, DC, Miami, Los Angeles,
San Francisco, and Kansas City. Contact us for help with a reception in your
town!
·
We published the 100th
Anniversary Commemorative Book on Stuyvesant 1904-2004, with Roundtable
Press, with an editorial committee chaired by Paul Levitz '73, President of
DC Comics and MAD magazine.
·
We assisted in the creation
of the memorial at Stuyvesant HS for the alumni(ae) victims of 9/11.
·
We assisted Angela Howard
'82 and others associated with the Stuyvesant HS Black Students Alumni(ae) Association (for further information, please contact Neal Hurwitz
